Composers

Paul Honey

Paul Honey's musical career started at the tender age of eight when he became a chorister with the choir of Westminster Abbey in Central London.

He then went on to win a music scholarship at a well-known school in west London before going on to Southampton university where he studied music history, composition and orchestration.

Since graduating he has enjoyed a highly varied musical career, performing in countries as far afield as Japan, Australia and the US, as well as working as a musical director and producer.

The past few years have seen him concentrate more and more on his career as a composer for television, film and commercials.

2012 was a very busy year for him, beginning with composing the music for LIFE STORIES (Red Prods/BBC) before going on to score the eagerly awaited adaptation of PG Wodehouse's BLANDINGS starring Timothy Spall, Jennifer Saunders and David Walliams (Mammoth/BBC). He has also returned to writing music for children with the score for Cbeebies' OLD JACK'S BOAT starring Bernard Cribbins and featuring stories written by the likes of Russell T Davies. The series premieres in the UK in January 2013.

He has also composed the music for the short film THE ACTRESS starring Sadie Frost and Sally Philips, and the theme and accompanying music for the return of ITV's SURPRISE SURPRISE which aired in the Autumn.

2012 Quotes:

Paul created a wonderfully rich textured soundscape for Old Jack's Boat. The orchestral arrangements were epic, witty, full of fun, tenderness and pathos and they perfectly complimented the stories being told. His ability to mix varied musical genres and instruments but still maintain an overall unity of musical style has made the show outstanding. He was also a pleasure to work with. - Dominic MacDonald, CBeebies producer

Paul Honey delivered a superb suite of thematic and incidental music – exactly what was needed to assist with a series in development. - Terri Langan, CBBC

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Paul on the series of BLANDINGS and immensely admired his ability to work uncomplainingly (at least to me!) under great pressure and to keep coming up with cues of great fun and freshness. I would very happily work with him again. - Paul Seed, BAFTA winning director

Composer Paul Honey worked with our directors diligently and delivered music which skilfully reflected the emotional nature of these dramas and the audience which they’re aimed at. - Emily Feller, Red Productions
